Anonymous asked: Who's make up did you do for the Grammy's? And what products did you use? Love your work!

Hi! Thank you for your kind words.  I was lucky enough to work with Nicole Kidman for my first time Grammy night.  She chose a gold Vera Wang dress so we warmed up her peaches and cream skin with the help of  Chantecaille Future Skin foundation and MAC Face and Body foundation.  I popped color on her cheeks with Laura Mercier cream blush in Sunrise and gave her eyes a chocolate smoke using Nars Shadow in Coconut Grove with some Laura Mercier Gold cream eyeshadow gently applied on top.  For her lips I used the new NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in Mexican Rose.

  • Hi Molly!

Thank you for sharing with everyone your responses to other people’s questions. I have one that I was hoping you may be able to help me with (since no one has yet.) I’m searching for a blush! I’ve been using the Chanel Rose Petale, but it doesn’t last! I wear the Mat Lumiere liquid foundation in 40 Beige. I have oily skin and am always recommended something with shimmer, or it’s just never enough (or the right) color. I’m 27 and want to go to work and out in the evenings looking fresh, not haggard. I do appreciate your help!

    All the best,
    Nicole

Hi Nicole!  Thank you for your question!  A great blush is so important to your makeup repertoire.  I always recommend choosing one that is brighter and more pigmented than you would think.  That way you are using less of it, yet packing a glowing punch.  Even though your skin tends to be oily, I would still recommend using first a cream blush and then setting it with a powder blush.

I love the NYX cosmetics cream blush sticks.   They are not greasy at all and come in a huge variety of colors and since you can’t beat the price, you can actually try them all!  I would say my favorite shade of the moment is: Tea Rose.

I also Laura Mercier Cream Blush.  Gorgeous consistency and wears beautifully.  I can’t get enough of the color Sunrise.  It’s bright and gives the complexion a whole new life.

As far as powder blushes go:

I am still totally dedicated to NARS blush in sex appeal as a finishing dust.  It’s a soft pink that just adds a perfect glow to nearly every skin tone.

If the whole cream and powder combo feels like too much.  I strongly suggest you try NARS powder blush in Liberte.  It’s a true flush of color.   Super pigmented and bright, so go easy, but it lasts and it’s glorious.

Good luck, and I always say, don’t be afraid of color, NOTHING looks better than a happy bright glowing cheek.  Make everyone think you just had the best make out session of your life.

    x

    Molly

Whats the best foundation for full coverage?
@HOURGLASSCOSMETICS Immaculate Liquid Powder foundation is a gorgeous full coverage foundation.  Even though it’s finish seems quite opaque, there is still something translucent about it.  So you feel covered with out looking like you’re wearing a mask.

Hi Molly,
I was wondering what’s the best way to make my eyes appear bigger? I think it’s so flattering to have eyes that pop.
I love an eye that pops.  This photo of Bette Davis is one of my favorites.  She is using one of the age old great tools to bring out her eyes which is to line the inside of the eye (the wet line) with a white or nude pencil.  By doing this you eliminate any redness and add brightness to the entire eye.   It’s an instant opener and a secret weapon that makeup artists have been using for decades.
A couple of my favorites are:

Stila Kajal Eye Pencil in Topaz:

Hi Molly, I love your work and your recommendations. I’ve already purchased Covergirl lipslick in Darling, L’oreal’s gel liner and Aveeno’s mousturizer after reading your blog, and I’m loving them. Can you share more of your drugstore favorites?

Yay!  Thank you so much for the feedback.  I love a great drugstore find.  Here is a short list of some of my other favs.

NYX BLUSH STICK is a fabulous cheek choice.  The consistency is great and you simply can not beat the $6.00 price.  You can get NYX at ULTA, Nordstrom Rack or Sears depending on where you live.

Burt’s Bees is another mass brand that always offers great items.  I love their wholesome ingredients and I know I can count on a quality product.  This herbal blemish stick is a great tool when you need to dry up a spot in a snap.  Available at CVS.

Love the fact that Essie Nail Polish is available at your local Walgreens!  This nail care line is in every professional manicurist’s kit on every set I’ve been on.  I love this color, Sand Tropez.  It’s a little cooler in tone for a neutral which I think gives it a modern edge.

I have recently discovered Rimmel’s Lash Accelerator Mascara.  Great brush, and the mascara really lasts.  Spending less than $10.00 for a tube of mascara makes me feel really good.  I also love the way it makes me feel like my lashes are growing!  Available at Rite Aid.

Another great lip stain is Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain.  I love the color Crush for a deeper lip, gorgeous with a nude eye.  Available at Target!
